UP Mindanao receives Presidential Recognition plaque for IDEAS Davao
The University of the Philippines Mindanao was awarded the Mindanao Winner under the "Improving Access to Technology and Innovation" category of the 2024 Presidential Recognition for Outstanding Development Partners for creating the Innovation and Development Accelerators Consortium for Start-ups Davao (IDEAS Davao) in ceremonies held at the Malacañan Palace on July 10, 2024. Asst. Prof. Miguel Carlo S. Guillermo of the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science (DMPCS), coordinator of the UP Mindanao Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO), and IDEAS Davao project leader, received the award from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
UP Mindanao created the Innovation and Development Accelerators Consortium for Start-ups Davao (IDEAS Davao) under the ReSEED program of the DOST-PCIEERD.
UP Mindanao created IDEAS Davao to help facilitate collaborative initiatives to improve incubation programs, mentoring, networking, fundraising, and media exposure for startups in the Davao Region. They helped incubate early-stage technology-based and socially relevant startups through comprehensive business training programs, market access, networking opportunities, intellectual property management, and legal counsel for their members. The IDEAS Davao Consortium consists of the Academe, Government, Private, Public, Media, and TBI Partners.
The 2024 Presidential Recognition for Outstanding Development Partners aims to honor institutions and organizations that championed and paved the way for the country's sustained economic growth with their programs to improve the business climate, access to finance, markets, technology and innovation, and management/labor capacities of micro, small, and medium enterprises.

"Armor" by Prof. Bengan translated to Albanian
"Armor: Stories" by UP Mindanao Assoc. Prof. John Bengan (Dep. of Humanities) has now been translated into the Albanian language by OMBRA GVG Publishing House, one of Albania's most well-known publishing houses. Its publications include a carefully selected variety of the most well-known classical and modern authors worldwide.
Prof.Bengan's "Armor" was a finalist in the recent 41st National Book Awards for short fiction in English and received the 23rd Madrigal Gonzalez Best First Book Award.

President Jimenez opens UPMin Kalimuhagan: Knowledge Fair

University President Angelo Jimenez led the ribbon-cutting to open the Kalimuhagan Knowledge Fair Exhibit during his recent visit to the new Center for the Advancement of Research in Mindanao (CARIM). The exhibit showcased the work of various researchers and research groups within the university with the theme "UPMin Research: Transforming Insights into Impacts."
Research Director May Anne Mata, in her welcome remarks, said kalimuhagan is translated as "light" or "knowledge on how to use something." Therefore, "Let there be kalimuhagan," she declared.
President Jimenez, in his message, said, "The pioneering spirit is the engine behind the establishment of UP Mindanao. This spirit is hardwired into your UP Mindanao DNA. As the first university president from Mindanao, I have committed myself to supporting that vision of the university as a shining symbol for Mindanao."
