The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao's UP Growing and Developing Enterprises (UPGRADE) co-organized the nationwide HEI (Higher Education Institution) Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship (HEIRIT) 2.0 Kick-off on June 23, 2022, in Davao City, for the second batch of HEIs and their proposed technology business incubators (TBI).UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao officially opened the Kick-off. “We are forging an agreement to transform our region’s innovation landscape. We are building a promising future for the next generations, a future where innovation flourishes and is supporting local economies…Let us fashion a new breed of resilient entrepreneurs who will champion Filipinnovation,” she said in her message. Ms. Russell Pili, chief of the DOST's Research Information and Technology Transfer Division (RITTD), individually called the HEIs from northern to the southern Philippines, many of which were represented by their heads.A highlight of the Kick-off was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (in photo, left) to deliver the capability-building training for the proposed TBIs. Prof. Nestor Nisperos of De La Salle University's Animo Labs, Chancellor Lyre Murao representing UP Min's UPGRADE, Dr. Luis Sison of the University of the Philippines' UPSCALE, and Andrew Wong, founder of E3 Hubs (Malaysia), signed the memorandum for the training series that began the following day.
The second TBI effort is named "Handholding Starting Incubators from HEIs for Readiness towards Innovation and Technopreneurship -  Preparatory and Skills Acceleration for TBI Managers Optimizing Regional Startup Ecosystem" or HIHEIRIT PA MORE. This aims to create more technology-based businesses or startups in the HEI's communities. It continues the original "Higher Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship," or HEIRIT program, which was started in the Davao Region by the University of Mindanao, the University of Southeastern Philippines, and UP Mindanao, each of which now has their TBIs and startups, some of which had booths in the exhibit hall. The program is funded by the DOST's Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research & Development (PCIEERD).
Asst. Prof. Miguel Guillermo (in photo, right), UPGRADE's project lead, said, "The technology business incubator in the universities will be the focal point in building the next generation of entrepreneurs in the regions. If someone with a good idea that solves a problem in the community needs to get some assistance and support for their funding and ideas, they should approach the nearest technology business incubator that is located in a higher education institution."

From UP OVPPA-MPRO: The University of the Philippines (UP) has come a long way since its establishment in 1908.
It emerged from the ravages of World War II, fought through political upheavals, braved new frontiers of technology, and soldiered on in this current pandemic. Throughout its history, it has been guided by its traditions of honor, excellence, and public service. It has never wavered in its commitment to work for social transformation that benefits the Filipino nation and humanity.
As UP marks its 114th anniversary, it looks back on its journey thus far, reflecting on lessons learned, actions taken, and challenges overcome. In the commemorative video especially created for this occasion, UP remembers its early years and highlights its achievements in the last year—from bringing faster connectivity to Barangay Kalinawan, Binangonan, Rizal just two days before lockdown, to the longed-for championship in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
These markers in the University’s history serve to guide its journey forward. UP continues on, taking to heart its responsibilities to the country, its people, and the global community. Going into the next normal of UP life, the University remains attuned and responsive to the evolving needs of its constituents and the publics it serves, not backing down in the face of disruptions and forging ahead with courage.
To borrow from a University cheer that its alumni would remember clearly: “Push on to victory with all your might . . . Push when the game goes hard . . . Push on, UP, and fight . . . Rise, rise, UP.”

The University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao’s former dean Dr. Niceto S. Poblador published a new book "Strategy in the New Age of Capitalism: Collaborative and Inclusive Approaches to Value Creation," which UP Mindanao welcomed with a book launch and book-signing ceremony on 05 May 2022.

"I welcome you to read the book and unpack its insights,” said Prof. Ma. Cynthia Bautista, UP vice president for academic affairs, in her welcome remarks at the UP Mindanao event. "Defend his insights or critique it in the philosophical sense, depending on your domain assumptions and theoretical perspectives," she said.

Former SOM dean and former UP Mindanao chancellor Prof. Larry Digal, in his book review, said “the concepts, ideas, and theories from various disciplines …support these core concepts of Dr. Poblador that it makes business sense for firms to share the value created with their stakeholders.”

Former SOM dean Prof. Pedro Alviola said, “the social responsibility of the firms is achieved by pursuing inclusive business practices and strategies that we need to be a contributor to economic wealth but in a manner that is consistent with the firm’s goal of earning profit.”

Dr. Poblador, in his talk, said “wealth is the incentive to create economic value but profit maximization is best achieved by consolidating and giving economic value to all contributors to the value-creation process. These contributors are consumers, workers, business partners or suppliers, and the community. Firms can co-align the economic interest of owners with other stakeholders. It can create value for customers through product development and improvement, generous pricing, and adequate customer care.”

Chancellor Lyre Murao said, "Dr. Poblador, please continue to share with us your wisdom and intellect, and assist our School of Management as one of its founders."

SOM Dean, Prof. Aurelia Luz Gomez, in her introduction to the former dean, said, "The legacy that he left behind is still with us."

The Social Weather Station, a non-government organization, likewise held its book launch on 20 May 2022. Prof. Mahar Mangahas, Social Weather Station director, in his "Social Climate" column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer on 28 May 2022 titled "Poblador's New Capitalism," wrote, "In this modern age, there are capitalists doing very well for themselves by being very good to others."

"Strategy in the New Age of Capitalism: Collaborative and Inclusive Approaches to Value Creation" is available from the University of the Philippines Press through .
