The PUSO-BULSA System Project Team delivered the End-User Training for UP Mindanao Personnel on September 25-27, 2024, for the upcoming system-wide implementation of the PUSO and BULSA.

The two acronyms stand for Personnel Unified System Outlook (PUSO) and Budget Utilization and Liquidation System and Analytics (BULSA). The Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research of UP Diliman built these information systems for UP.

The UP President's Proclamation No. 1, Series of 2018 declares September 21 of every year as the Day of Remembrance throughout the University of the Philippines (UP) System to remember the day former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. declared martial law in the Philippines.

In observance of this day in the country's history, University President Angelo Jimenez enjoined the UP community through Memorandum No. PAJ 24-22, to initiate activities in line with the UP Day of Remembrance.

UP Mindanao's students and other clients can expect improved service from the university units and personnel following the Customer Service Training held on September 18-19, 2024.

Front-line personnel and administrative support staff attended the training organized by the Human Resource Development Office, which featured Mr. Perfecto "Jun" Cagaanan Jr. as the resource speaker. 

• Understand the importance of empathy and care (malasakit) in providing excellent customer service 

• Develop active listening skills to understand customer needs and concerns 

• Analyze customer feedback and use it to improve customer care 

• Acquire problem-solving skills to resolve customer issues efficiently and effectively 

• Demonstrate how to handle difficult customers and de-escalate conflicts 

At the culmination of the training, the participants presented their short and easy-to-remember slogans, which university personnel can internalize to guide their dealings with students and other clients. The slogan-statements are "Serbisyong Bayan para sa Mamamayan," "Kalidad na Edukasyon at Serbisyong may Utak at Puso," and "Every Juan Matters." 

The training is part of UP Mindanao's Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM).

The UP System held its first Systemwide Faculty Conference since 2015, with the theme "Transformative Education in the Service of the Nation," from September 17 to 19, 2024, at the Diamond Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, Manila. The conference is considered to be one of the key moments of the current administration to shape the future of higher education in the Philippines collectively. Faculty members and key decision-makers from the UP System and its units attended. Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao led the UP Mindanao delegation with Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Annabelle Novero and Vice-Chancellor for Administration Leo Manuel Estana. Deans Jhoanna Lynn Cruz, Cleto Nanola Jr., and Aurelia Luzviminda Gomez led their respective colleges.
